Violins

Rod Ward violins are handmade from the very finest materials available, and constructed in the old Italian manner. The instruments are made with wood from the same forests that the old masters used, and the finish is done with varnishes that are made according to old contemporary recipes. The result is instruments that have beauty, great dynamic range and quality of tone and carrying power.

The workshop usually makes violins based on the instruments of Guarneri del Gesu, principally the Baron Heath of 1743, the Heifitz of 1741, and the "Sainton" 1743. Other models of this, and other famous makers are available and can be made on request.

The violin pictured above is made in the late Guarneri del Gesu style c. 1742. The sides and back made are from the same deeply figured Bosnian Maple, and the front from the best Alpine Spruce. Clicking on the violin images above will open a larger, more detailed view of the instrument.
