This cello is one of a series of seven Guadagnini model Cellos I have made over the last three years. Original Guadagnini cellos are renowned for their wonderful sound, and are used as concert instruments by famous soloists worldwide.
They are slightly smaller in back length and, string length than the Stradivari or Guarneri model cello, and consequently a easier to play, especially for players who would benefit from a shorter string length. Due the to clever design of these instruments there is no loss of tone or volume compared to the larger instruments.
This series of cellos used a variety of traditional woods for the back and sides viz : Europen Maple, English Sycamore, Italian Poplar (two varieties), and English poplar. The age of the wood varied from c. 80+ years to more recent wood.
It is very interesting to hear the small differences, and the similarities in sound the different woods make in the finished instrument.
These cellos are now available for trial and sale.
I have one more of the series under construction. This cello has a very lovely and delicately figured back with matching sides that date from 1976. The front is from 25 year old Alpine Spruce.
