About Erdesz Violas

The violas made by Otto Erdesz were known for their unique sound and can be heard on the many recordings of the famous violist Rivka Golani.

I have now made three very successful violas of his large cutaway model. These instruments have a back length of 425mm. or 444mm. with a sound to match the large size.

The cutaway is on the treble side at the top of the instrument, and enables the player to reach the highest positions more easily than with a conventional shape where the hand is forced to work round and above the top of the instrument.

The sound of these instruments is very large and beautiful. These violas are also remarkably easy to play for such large instruments.
